West Ham chief David Gold has defended his goalkeeper Robert Green for the mistake which led to England drawing 1-1 with the USA at the World Cup and to him subsequently being dropped by Fabio Capello.
The Italian also left out the 30-year-old for last night’s friendly with Hungary but Gold insisted: ‘Robert has come out of this with absolute dignity. If I’d been England manager, I would not have dropped him [after the USA game].’
